Biomedical Research Council (BMRC)

Revised Charge and Committee make-up

December 2004

(Approved by Provost, February 14, 2005)

The BMRC is a committee chaired by the vice president for research to support the strategic and operational needs of the research mission of the schools of Allied Health Sciences, Dentistry, Medicine and Nursing. Specifically, the BMRC is charged with: 1) promoting interschool collaboration of research and promote horizontal and vertical communication of research initiatives through interaction of faculty, dissemination of information, and support for recruitment of research faculty as needed, 2) reviewing and commenting on any strategic plan for research as requested by deans, and 3) identifying and providing potential solutions to issues related to research administration and compliance through interaction with the Research Support Council and the vice president for research.

The committee is comprised of two faculty representatives from each school, one selected by the dean of that school and the other selected by the faculty of that school. One of the representatives may be the associate dean for research from that school. Membership is reviewed annually and the dean may reappoint members. It is advisory to the dean's council and the individual deans depending upon the subject under consideration. It will meet at least once per month, but can meet more as deemed appropriate by the Chair.
