In 1910, the Wilhenford Children's Hospital opened in Augusta as the South’s first dedicated children’s hospital. Since then, our community has been home to quality pediatric care, making a difference in the lives of countless children across the region. The Children’s Medical Center continues that tradition with a revolutionary approach to patient care, inviting a collaborative partnership between caregivers, patients, and their families. Now, community pediatricians will have one number to call to reach the admitting pediatrician at the Children’s Medical Center expediting communication and transfer. We will handle all aspects of transfer and coordination, leaving the community pediatrician with a more efficient admission process. |

This new program guarantees that referrals from community pediatricians will be seen within one week by one of our pediatric specialists. This will be made possible by utilizing mid-level nurse practitioners working under the supervision of the pediatric subspecialist for routine return visits, and the program will be implemented incrementally in the coming year for all subspecialty clinics. |
