Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology

The Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition offers consultation and inpatient services for all gastrointestinal, liver related and nutritional problems in children with special emphasis on

  1. Gastroesophageal reflux: This is an area of faculty research interest. We are one of the few institutions offering Multiple Impedance Test in children. This test documents not only acid but non acid refluxes as well.
  2. Constipation: Another area of research interest. We offer a structured protocolized treatment program consisting of dietary, behavioral and life style changes along with medications.
  3. Obesity: An area of research interest. We offer a multidisciplinary approach with active involvement of the primary care physician.
  4. Gastrointestinal problems related to food allergy such as Eosinophilic Esophagitis, cow's milk protein allergy etc. We offer a comprehensive multidisciplinary treatment program.
  5. Tube feeding: We place gastrostomy (PEG) and transpyloric feeding tubes through endoscopes and monitor nutritional requirements of special needs children.
  6. Chronic abdominal pain
  7. Inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn's bisease and Ulcerative Colitis.
  8. Neonatal cholestasis, acute and chronic hepatitis.

Pediatric Gastroenterology Accomplishments and Good News!

  • Dr. Sudipta Misra was feature speaker at the Annual Gastroenterology Medical and Surgical Procedure Meeting held in July, 2011
  • Dr. Kim-Doan Nguyen was feature speaker at the Annual Pediatrics By The Sea Meeting, July 2011
  • Dr Marek Lukacik and Dr. Kim-Doan Nguyen presented abstracts at the October,2011  NASPGHAN Meeting.
  • Joyce Dorman, PNP attended the October, 2011 NASPGHAN Meeting
  • Joyce Dorman,PNP assumed responsibilities as Transplant Coordinator for Pediatric Gastroenterology.

Procedures: We perform upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopies with interventions such as polypectomy, hemostasis, dilatation, PEG placement etc.
