The Chairman's Synopsis for 2010-2011 Resident Applicants was largely prepared by our chair, Dr. Peter Buckley, who has now taken on the responsibility as Dean of the Medical College of Georgia at Georgia Health Sciences University. Under the dynamic leadership of our new president, Dr. Ricardo Azziz, Georgia Health Sciences University (GHSU) is undergoing an exciting and profound transformation into an even greater institution than it already is. As Interim Chair of Psychiatry, please be assured that we have been given the authority and the expectation that our programs and department will grow and continue to expand, and that is just what we are doing. Our recent partnership with the local state hospital, East Central Regional – Augusta, is just one example of that, where we have added five new faculty members this year and expect to add another seven to ten over the next two years. In addition, we have added five new faculty members at the GHSU campus this year and we have every expectation of adding an equal number in the next year.
