Aloha Everyone! A Welcome Back Luau Party kicked off the Fall semester with a spash! Returning and new students had a chance to get to get to know each other and enjoy a relaxing day in the sun and fun in the pool! A huge thanks to Dr. Adviye Ergul who graciously hosted this event at her house! |

Zumbathon |

Crazy Sneakers Zumbathon Dancing for a Great Cause! The GHSU Team Trialnet Walk to Cure Diabetes team sponsored a Zumbathon to raise money for the Augusta/Aiken Walk to Cure Diabetes. Over 100 'zumbaholics' were in attendance for an energetic afternoon with routines led by 19 of the CSRA's rowdiest Zumba instructors. The proceeds from registration fees, T-shirt sales and a silent auction raised $1715. Professional photographer Laura Fulmer was on duty to capture some great photos! |

GSO Halloween Party |
Ghoulish games, freaky fun, and frightening food! This year's Halloween party was no exception to the great parties that are held by the GSO to really bring together the graduate students. Costumes ranged from cutesy to morbid and fun was had by all that attended. Prizes were awarded to the top 3 costumes (voted on by the other party-goers). In third place was Joanna Erion as a "Killer Bee"; In second place was Keely Duff-Harvey as "Katy Perry from California Gurls Video"; In first place was Prassana Abeyrathna as a "Dirty Hippie". |

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Walk to Cure Diabetes |
Over $5,000 raised for JDRF! This year the Center for Biotechnology and Genomic Medicine once again put together a team for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Walk to Cure Diabetes held on Saturday, November 5th. The team of 46 individuals was comprised of faculty, staff and 10 graduate students. Prior to the walk, students hosted various events across campus including two bake sales, a hot dog sale and a Zumbathon to raise money. The team goal was set at $5,000 and was easily surpassed. THANKS to all who supported these fund raising events and donated money to the cause! Team captain, graduate student Colleen Carey, is already looking ahead to the 2012 event with a fund raising challenge of $10,000 and the possibility of creating an enterprise wide team. Stay tuned for ways you can stay involved or become involved in the future! |
